One of the most amazing instruments I’ve ever encountered is the Hammond B3/C3. Here is an album I recorded in two short sessions of improvisation (many of the tracks are improvised or semi-improvised) on the evening of July 22 and morning of July 23, 2021, at EMEAPP, the Electronic Music Education and Preservation Project, on Keith Emerson’s “Tarkus” Hammond C3 organ, and using Emerson’s custom Leslie Cabinets. There is simply nothing like the sound and feel of this instrument. Some sample packages have pretty good Hammond sets nowadays, but the feel of the keyboard, and the speed with which it can be played, is a big part of the instrument too.
